Podcasts
Jesuits of the California Province
After launching www.jesuitscalifornia.org in 2005, Zehno made it more personal and portable by adding audio podcasts. Our process provides a road map for planning, recording, and promoting this popular tool.
- First, we worked with the Province to select six subjects with
good voices to reflect on key ministries. Our goals: to inform
listeners, encourage affiliation, and extend the brand.
- Second, we recorded the podcasts. Gail Tyson of Zehno conducted
the interviews in person at their studio. Although technology for
remote recording exists, we prefer same-site interviews for subjects
who are unfamiliar with studio recording, or who are speaking about
very personal subjects, such as their spiritual journeys.
- We received transcripts of Gail’s 30-40 minute interviews,
which she edited down to 6-9 minutes. The interviewer
was edited out to create a seamless product.
- We promote the podcast “album” through an e-newsletter,
a link on the home page, and a prominent promotion feature on the
home page and relevant content pages.
Our second round of podcasts includes the Jesuit daily Examen for
visitors who pray on the go.
Because the site’s audio files are
among the most popular features, future podcasts will feature musicians
playing their pieces and describing them. Video podcasts — either
hosted on the Province server or linked to YouTube — are also
planned.
