CASE International Circle of Excellence Awards, Admissions Advertising Awards
To support its $170 million capital campaign, Columbia Business School asked Zehno to develop a suite of communications materials. The effort included:
Dean’s Report: To subtly set the stage for the campaign, yet to be publicly announced, the school wished to promote its accomplishments over the last several years to all constituencies. The resulting Dean’s Report used easy-to-read charts, quick lists and other fast facts communicated in a graphically striking, colorful statement. The report positioned the school on the cutting-edge of global business education.
Case Statement: To announce the campaign, Zehno developed a case statement that highlighted four areas of emphasis — teaching excellence, intellectual capital and the curriculum, cutting-edge technology, and building community — and asked readers to join the school in further strengthening its position as a global powerhouse. Drawing on the established graphic style of the Dean’s Report, the case brought the school’s momentum to life, encouraging action. Zehno recommended a much higher print run than the Dean’s Report so that the school’s 30,000 alumni could also be introduced to the campaign.
Donor’s Report: Since the beginning of time, donation has begat recognition. To honor contributors to the campaign as well as the annual fund and other support opportunities, Zehno partnered with Columbia to create a Donor’s Report that illustrated the impact of donors’ financial support through the creation of new programs, academic research centers and support services.
Columbia Business School met its goal of $170 million in June of 2003, more than a year early. Since then, donations continue to pour in. Major donors to the school have written letters extolling the virtues of the Dean’s Report. The accompanying Dean’s Report Web site helped encourage applications and yield, and extended the reach of the content and concept far past the 29,000 copies printed.
