90th Anniversary Communications

Columbia Business School

90th anniversary Web feature opening screen and highlights screenColumbia Business School entered 2006 on the cusp of its 90th anniversary. The institution wished to celebrate through a 90-day series of events and communications that focused on the achievements of the past while looking forward to the possibilities of the future.

Zehno started by working with the school to create a 90th Anniversary logo and identity. The visual treatment needed to be clear as standalone as well as work as an identifier on stationery, Web sites, banners and brochures.

Collaborating closely with School communications staff members, Zehno also helped craft a Web celebration of the 90th. Both internal and external audiences needed to be intrigued and engaged by the content. The Flash-based Web feature included

  • A timeline
  • Scrapbook highlights, with a video clip from Edward Murrow’s “See It Now”
  • Community memories and a “Share Your Memory” form
  • Wallpaper downloads

The sophisticated design of the interface played off Columbia University’s signature blue, while giving a nod both to the history and future through sepia browns and transparent overlays combined with splashes of color for the more contemporary content.

Immediately after launch, the Office of Publications and Web Communications received notes of praise and congratulations from around the school.

According to Nicola Fabens, the office’s director, “We were able to pull off a first-rate project in spite of an extremely tight timeline and budget—and without either being evident in the end result. Zehno went above and beyond to give us expert advice, execution and follow-through to not just get it done, but to shape and deliver a product with real impact.”
